More distributors for Cisco UCS
After Comstor, it is Azlan and Magirus' turns to start the distribution of Cisco UCS servers. Azlan will focus on the C serie and will allow its resellers to choose memory and available storage. This partnership is officially pan-european, which means that Cisco UCS are available through Azlan offices in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Magirus's partnership is also pan-european and is served with a dedicated division. Magirus will rely on its European integration center in Strasbourg (France) to distribute config-to-order B and C series through its resellers and claims to be the only distributor to be able to build solutions around EMC, VMware and Cisco technologies. Magirus partnership covers Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

ITdistri analysis : by signing two new distributors for its UCS in just a few days, Cisco obviously plans a major offensive on servers. One will see if three distributors will not clog the market on UCS and lead to price decreases…

Telio closes its doors
France : network and security VAD Telio has gone bankrupt a few weeks ago. The company was among the few France-based VADs to be specialized on Maghreb and French-speaking Africa. Its latest known turnover was €733k, for 2007.

Samtec appoints Avnet Abacus for distribution throughout Europe
Avnet Abacus today announced that it has signed a pan-European franchise agreement with Samtec, a manufacturer of connectors. The agreement extends the successful partnership between the two companies to all European countries in which Avnet Abacus operates (Belgium, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Hungary, Luxembourg, Poland, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, the Netherlands, the UK and Turkey) and takes the number of pan-European franchises held by Avnet Abacus to 43. Previously, Avnet Abacus was franchised for Samtec only in Austria, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Norway and Sweden.

Allnet loses wire with Alvarion
Germany : cabling and networking specialist Allnet has added Alvarion WiMAX infrastructure products to its portfolio (source : Heise Resale Deutschland).

Komputronik gets into ebooks
Poland : broadliner Komputronik has started the distribution of ebooks from iRiver, Endless Ideas and Vedia (source : IT Partner Polska).

Cisco chooses Exclusive Networks as ATC for Ironport
Cisco's Ironport security division has selected network and security VAD Exclusive Networks as its first Authorized Certification Center (ATC) for Southern Europe (France, Italy and Spain).

Trilogy to be rebranded as Gem Logistics
United Kingdom : the surviving elements of UK distributor Trilogy are soon to be rebranded as Gem Logistics. The move follows Gem’s acquisition of Trilogy back in December, and will allow the distributor to further develop both businesses (source : MCV United Kingdom).

Lenovo goes for local distribution with Metra
Middle East : PC vendor Lenovo has appointed Metra Computer as an authorised distributor for the UAE and Qatar in what represents its latest move to fine-tune its regional distribution structure. Metra, which is already a Lenovo distributor in Egypt, will be tasked with helping Lenovo develop its consumer and SMB business in both markets (source : ITP Middle East).

Wick Hill appointed as a distributor of Oak’s comms portfolio
United Kingdom : network and security VAD Wick Hill has been appointed as a distributor for Oak’s Comms Suite solution, which encompasses call logging, call recording, CTI and wallboard applications. Comms Suite can integrate seamlessly with all major telephony systems, reporting and displaying live call statistics and XML output from any business database. This appointment is one of a number of new distributor relationships, which are part of a further expansion by Wick Hill in the converged voice/data market.
