Stordis becomes vendor

Even if still a distributor, German high performance computing VAD Stordis has decided to grow a vendor business, by developing its own storage system, named StorDFS. StorDFS is built up on a parallel file system (based on Frauhofer FHGFS technology) and any storage hardware, up to 1.8 Pb in a 42U rack. Its distributed metadata management system eliminates points of failure that may arise in the cluster or any parallel file systems. It supports several storage protocols, including as 10Gbps Ethernet, Fibre Channel, Infiniband and SAS. According to the VAD, this system is both highly performant and easy to use. StorDFS is available in Europe through Stordis offices in France, Germany and the United Kingdom.

ASBIS to launch its own smartphones

Cyprus-based broadliner ASBIS, which also owns offices in Belarus, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Dubai, Egypt, Estonia, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Morocco, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Tunisia, Turkey and Ukraine, is planning to launch its own offer of smartphones by the end of the year, under its Prestigio brand.

Avnet Memec announces new technical marketing structure

Semiconductor specialist Avnet Memec has unveiled a new focussed technical marketing strategy for Europe, headed by the company's regional vice president for Northern Europe, Bill Walker. As part of a broader restructure, Walker will absorb the role of vice president, technical marketing, in addition to his existing role. From 2004 to July 2005 Walker was president of demand creation for the Memec Group in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Prior to that, he held the position of CEO Insight Memec EMEA. During 20 years with Memec, Walker held a range of senior sales, marketing and management positions. In addition, he served as the Memec representative for the Avnet Electronics Marketing EMEA executive team on the successful integration process of Memec into Avnet Electronics Marketing. With his appointment as technical marketing vice president, the current management structure will remain largely unchanged regarding supplier ownership. However, Walker will initiate a new and more streamlined approach to technical marketing activities, which will primarily focus on major vertical markets and key technologies such as low power devices and power management, convertors, energy harvesting, wireless and wired technologies.

Sysob signs with FatPipe

German network and security VAD Sysob has signed a european-wide distribution, marketing and support partnership with WAN, LAN and VPN optimisation vendor FatPipe Networks. Beside its German headquarters (which will cover move European countries), Sysob will also push FatPipe Networks products through its offices in Austria and Switzerland.
