Tech Data helps resellers with refurbishment
Germany : what can end users do with their old IT equipment ? Broadliner Tech Data has decided to take this problem in charge, through a partnership with broker GSD Remarketing. GSD will take in charge the disposal or the refurbishment of used products (PCs, notebooks, printers, monitors, PBX or even cell phones), and will even be able to provide resellers an additional revenue source : depending on the condition of the products to be refurbished, resellers can get up to 30% of its original price.
Fallbrooks displays with Optoma
Netherlands : software and video specialist Fallbrook Informatics has been appointed official distributor by Optoma for its new line of digital signage products (standalone players and screens) (source : Computer Reseller News Nederland).
Imation appoints Redington as ND
India : the exclusive licensee of a recording media brand TDK Life on Record, Imation has signed up broadliner Redington as its national distributor. Northamber shifts from box-moving to VAD
United Kingdom : veteran broadliner Northamber has invested €225000 in Solution Point, a 930 sqm IBM centre above its warehouse in Webybridge as a precursor to becoming a mid-market VAD, because of shrinking margins on box turnover and an insufficient size to compete with Ingram or Computer 2000. The Solution Point offers IBM employees and Business Partners conference, training, demonstration and configuration facilities and includes a Virtualisation Practise to showcase technologies and an open zone for informal meets. A virtualisation solution will be launched first, centring on IBM System x, mid-range XIV storage, and virtual disk solutions and virtualisation. Northamber will also create an HP Attack programme to migrate small to mid-sized resellers and would be looking to raid Dell’s partner base (source : Microscope United Kingdom).
Canon signs up OST Electronics for Jammur & Kashmir
India : Canon has signed up exclusive distribution agreement with VAD and VAR OST Electronics for the entire Jammu & Kashmir as part of their focused plan for the North sub-regions. The agreement follows the recent realignment of businesses at Canon. Earlier Canon India had two separate divisions—MFDs and the fax portfolio under Business Imaging Solutions (BIS), while CSP (Consumer Sales Products) division looked after the remaining product ranges in the imaging and printing portfolio. Datatec acquires Biodata
South Africa : IT group Datatec has agreed to acquire security VAD Biodata IT SA. The acquisition will be integrated into Westcon SA, Datatec’s South African networking, convergence, security and mobility distribution business, Biodata’s strong vendor suite and established presence in the local market adding significantly to Westcon SA’s existing security portfolio. The terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.
