Westcon Group hires former Avaya Channel Chief to lead EMEA operations

Network and telecom VAD Westcon Group has tapped a former Avaya veteran to lead its newly converged European unified communications, European security and Africa, India and Middle East operations. Jeremy Butt brings to Westcon more than 20-years of sales and marketing expertise, leading successful worldwide channel efforts at Avaya and Motorola. As newly-appointed EMEA Executive VP, Jeremy Butt will bring together separate regional business units into an EMEA regional unit. Responsible for strengthening partner relationships and expanding the reach of Westcon's Unified Communications and Security business practices, he will drive profitability for new and existing customers and markets across the distributor's eco-system of partners.
New distribution agreement with Active Communications Europe

Westcon Group, a value-added distributor of category-leading unified communications, network infrastructure, data center, and security solutions with a global network of specialty resellers, today announced its Westcon Convergence business practice has signed a distribution agreement with Active Communications Europe BV. Active Communications is the creator of ACS Lync and a leader in Unified Communications solutions based upon Microsoft Lync. The relationship extends Active’s channel program into new markets, allowing its partner communities to immediately begin selling the ACS Lync appliance. With this agreement, Westcon is immediately expanding its portfolio with the easy-to-manage and easy to install ACS Lync Unified Communications solution. The Active Communications Server (ACS) is an appliance based on Microsoft Lync Server 2010 and can be easily deployed within the enterprise without the need of high consultancy fees. It will be available through Westcon Convergence offices in Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
Westcon Group unveils inaugural LEAP center

Network and security VAD Westcon Group has unveiled the first of its global LEAP (Learn, Experience, Architect and Plan) Centers - dedicated "centers of excellence" for resellers to capitalize on data center opportunities related to next-generation technologies – including the Cisco Unified Computing System. The Brussels-based facility is the first of several world-class facilities Westcon Group will be launching around the world. LEAP Centers offer resellers a major competitive differentiator in their pursuit of data center opportunities and are engineered to replicate real-world scenarios faced in deploying virtualized servers with their customers. Westvon European resellers can test and experience a wide array of complementary solutions, such the Cisco Unified Computing System, storage offerings from NetApp, EMC, and virtualized applications from VMware, Microsoft, Oracle, SAP and other manufacturers, all this both on-site and via remote access.
They were developed to provide an ongoing showcase for industry-leading, networking, data center and virtualization technologies ; a facility that educates resellers and their end-user customers on recent data center and virtualization technologies, a sophisticated lab environment for resellers to conduct testing and gain hands-on training with data center and virtualization solutions; onsite and remote access to component systems, products and solutions featured in the LEAP Center ; a destination briefing center for resellers to host customers for live demonstrations and tailored business case proposals; and finally the ability to review real world application benchmarks and proof-of-concept for server migrations and solution deployments.
LEAP Centers help resellers reduce time-to-revenue, while overcoming the unique challenges faced in virtualization and data center deployments: longer sales cycles, more complex technology evaluations and deeper investments. By accessing the LEAP Center demo infrastructure, resellers are able to set up and host their own data center demonstrations without incurring the additional expense of procuring a dedicated data center network test environment. Each LEAP Center provides training on data center related products and provide proof-of-concept evaluations utilizing competitive server solutions.
