A new head for Tech Data Mobile

Germany: following the promotion of Torben Pedersen to VP DACH, Czech, Poland and Nordics, Stefan Völkel becomes the new country manager for telephony specialist Tech Data Mobile. Since 2009, Stefan was the sales director of the distributor.
Brightstar to acquire 20:20

Less than one year after having sold to Tech Data its shares in Brightstar Europe, the American telephony specialist is close to come back in Europe, through the acquisition of the British giant 20:20 Mobile. The seller would be the private equity firm Doughty Hanson, which is the biggest shareholder in 20:20 after the acquisition back in 2006 of the shares of John Caudwell. 20:20 is currently present in Denmark, Dubai, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and the United Kingdom: most countries where Brightstar will be in competition with its former subsidiary.
Brightstar to come back in Europe

Just a few weeks after officially selling for €125m its 50% share in its Brightstar Europe joint venture to Tech Data, American telephony specialist Brightstar is already looking forward to reenter the European market. The company is thinking about buying a British distributor (among the potential candidates are 20:20 Mobile and Data Select), and has already acquired Mobile Phone Xchange (MPX). MPX will allow Brightstar to offer mobile operators and retailers a fully integrated, scalable technology platform for their trade-in programs (source : Mobile News United Kingdom).

A new name for Brightstar

Following the acquisition of the remaining shares of its alliance with American telephony specialist Brightstar in Europe, broadliner Tech Data has decided to change the name of its telephony and mobility BU to TD Mobile. Currently, Tech Data Mobile, which generates a yearly turnover of about €1400bn, is present in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Tech Data gets full ownership of Brightstar Europe

After 5 years as a 50-50 joint-venture between American companies Tech Data and Brightstar, Brighstar Europe becomes a full subsidiary of the broadliner, which has purchased the shares of the telephony specialist for about €119m. The takeover is subject to regulatory approval but should be completed by the third quarter of the 2013 financial year. Until then, Brightstar Europe has become Brightstar Tech Data, a BU of Tech Data. It is currently present in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. The company has generated a turnover of about €1.35m in the last year.
