Tech Data customers across the company's entire European footprint now have easy access to three of Leitz's product ranges: Icon for digitally enhanced labelling, including smart technology, and iLAM for easy document lamination through its broadline businesses in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom and Complete, which offers high-quality mobile professional accessories, throught its Mobile Solutions offices in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Tech Data Europe has unveiled a new Europe-wide agreement with Lookout, a global specialist in securing mobility. Lookout's cloud-based solution, offered through Tech Data Mobile in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, protects individuals and enterprises alike by predicting and stopping mobile attacks before they do harm. With this agreement, Tech Data Mobile extends its product portfolio to include licenses of Lookout Premium and provides its reseller community with another revenue stream to complement their mobile offering across accessories, wearables, companion products and software. Lookout's consumer application for iOS and Android delivers the essential security needed to keep mobile devices safe, including automatic protection from viruses, malware and spyware, lost and stolen phone remediation, privacy controls, and backup.

Distree 2016: a fill of innovations
After a two-year gap, ITdistri was back at Distree EMEA. The event has evolved, becoming much larger in terms of surface area and number of exhibitors. Some visitors regretted a lack of major vendors, while others wished more African retailers and distributors: "in the past, we liked to come to Distree EMEA to meet companies from the whole region. Now, if we want to expand our coverage of the African continent, we ought to go to Distree Africa, which means more costs and time consumed for us. And even there, we will miss many French speaking distributors", one of them said anonymously. Nevertheless, the event was a success, with about 250 distributors, 150 retailers and etailers and about 130 exhibitors (including about 15 distributors wishing to expand their business in Europe or meet some of their existing customers in the region, including ABC Data, ATC, Avnet Technology Solutions, Daymen, GTI, IDCP, Inforlandia, Innelec Multimédia, Nedis, NTT System, Proks, PSA Parts, Tech Data Europe and Tekpoint). Singapore came in force, with a contingent of 10 companies overseen by the Singaporean-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce. Beside their one-to-one meetings, visitors could participate to workshops, conferences and keynote, to get valuable insight about the major trends of the consumer markets in the region, with analysts and consulting companies such as GfK, Early Metrics, Rude Baguette, Quadmark or Ocean Solutions.

New vendors were not the only ones to present new products. Aiptek presented, a few days before the Cebit event in Germany, its DG-VTa, a dongle which can be connected easily via HDMI to a beamer to turn any projection surface into an interactive touchscreen display. The supplied pen serves as a sensor – when running it over the projection surface, the "DG-VTa" notices it like a touchscreen and transfers the signals accordingly. Inno3d, which is better know for its graphic cards, was showcasing its 3D printers (distributed quietly since a few month by German distributor API) and its Bluetooth LED bulbs. Tech Data Europe set out its strategy for leading the way in channel cloud development to key vendors, service providers, resellers and managed services provider partners from all over the continent at its European Cloud Summit in Barcelona last week.
Around 200 delegates heard John Tonnison, Tech Data's Executive Vice President Cloud Computing and Worldwide Chief Information Officer, deliver the opening plenary alongside Reza Honarmand, Vice President Software and Cloud Europe, who explained how Tech Data is enabling partners to access, power and master cloud services and solutions.
There was also a keynote presentation on partner business transformation by David Ednie, President and CIO, SalesChannel Europe and a renowned authority on the cloud services market. Attendees then attended a series of breakout sessions hosted by Microsoft, IBM, Cisco and HP, as well as Tech Data.
Feedback from the event was extremely positive. Ivan Verdier, Group Partner Management Director, Computacenter Plc, said: "This was a really useful and well-structured event and Tech Data deserves a lot of credit for taking the time and making the investment to keep us and all its industry partners informed, not only on its own strategy, but also on the current state of the market's evolution. Tech Data provides access to a comprehensive portfolio of best-of-breed IaaS, PaaS and SaaS services. Through its StreamOne cloud aggregation portal, services from IBM SoftLayer, Microsoft Azure, VMware vCloud Air, IBM, AirVM, and HP are available. Resellers are able to access, test and provision services for customers and subsequently manage customer usage and provide consolidated monthly billing for both partners and customers. Cloud services can simply be re-sold, made available within the partner's own website or offered as part of fully independent cloud services platform.
Honarmand added that Tech Data was extremely grateful to all its vendor, service provider, reseller and MSP partners and associates who attended and contributed to the Cloud Summit event. The company is already considering plans for a similar event next year and will be making details of its plans available to partners in due course.
A new managing director for Tech Data Mobile
Germany: Sven Hollemann has been hired as managing director for mobile and telephony specialist Tech Data Mobile. He was previously working for Ingram Micro as Senior Director Pan-Europe and Category Management EMEA Volume. He reports to Michael Dressen, Regional Managing Director Tech Data Germany and Austria. He replaces Stefan Völker whose new whereabouts are yet unknown.
