B.Com goes south
2011-09-02 Spain : just a few months after its short-lived French office, German broadliner B.Com opened a new sales office in Spain located in the Baleares islands. Currently, this office has two experienced employees, Heike Zacharias and Christian Werner. Heike was a former employee of Lenovo Australia, while Christian was employed as international account manager for b.com's competitor Siewert & Kau. Having worked for Ingram Micro in Germany a couple of years ago, both also have experience in the field of broadline distribution.
These two offices are just the beginning of the international strategy of b.com. Currently the SMB broadliner is analyzing the international market to choose the countries it will enter now and in the future. Both France and Spain were mere opportunities, as b.com went in touch with German people knowing the local market. Torsten Belverato, the CEO of b.com, is although confident about the success of the distributor on the international market: "We hired people who have good relationships with local resellers. Despite the crisis, just six months after starting business, we have already reached breakeven in Spain. We plan to leverage on the German so-called values like seriousness and reliability. We are for example able to deliver products in a time frame that is comparable to the one of many local distributors", he explains.
In the next three years, b.com plans to enter more countries. An Austrian subsidiary will be the first on the radar screen and is planned by the end of the year. As the company was centered on the German market - in which it is growing constantly - any new foreign business will be just additional turnover. For the last fiscal year (ended 30. June) b.com reached a turnover of €308m. Like in Germany b.com targets the SMB resellers through its Spanish subsidiary.
