2011-09-30 South Africa : broadliner Mustek has become the only local distributor to be registered as an accredited service provider for Acer products purchased from its registered dealer network. The company inked a distribution deal with the PC maker in February, joining existing local distributors, Axiz and Tarsus. This will place Mustek as the only complete local service provider for the Acer brand : all Acer products purchased from Mustek dealers will be serviced and repaired at Mustek's internal service division. Tarsus adds Microsoft, mulls software division
2011-05-13 South Africa : in a move that is expected to shake up the local distribution market, broadliner Tarsus Technologies and Microsoft have announced the signing of a distribution agreement which will see Tarsus becoming an authorised Microsoft Distributor. The agreement means that Tarsus can now distribute all its traditional hardware brands with Microsoft Office 2010 (full retail package products), as well as Microsoft OEM Windows and Server products, traditionally sold with new PCs or servers. Microsoft already had a distribution partnership with Tarsus subsidiary Platinum Micro. Consolidating their distribution agreements at a holding company level will enable Tarsus Technologies to drive greater Microsoft revenues through their channels. According to Pierre Spies, CEO of Tarsus, "this agreement could be a precursor to Tarsus forming a software focused-division" (source : IT-Online South Africa).
