Ingram moves its backend office in Bulgaria

American broadliner Ingram Micro has decided to move some of its backend, administrative tasks to Bulgaria, in order to save on operational costs. All offices in Europe are seemingly more or less targeted with this decision, that is about 200 people, but the distributor currently says that it is too early to make any concrete statements about any job cuts in any country.

Ingram Micro EMEA appoints Jason Beal to strengthen growing value division

Broadliner Ingram Micro EMEA has appointed Jason Beal Senior Director, Software and Services, Value Division, effective 1 January 2011. He will be based in Brussels, Belgium, and will report to Vincenzo Baggio, Senior Vice President, Vendor Management and Business Development, EMEA. Beal will be responsible for developing go-to-market strategies for the value software portfolio and services on a pan-European basis. He will work closely with the local country businesses to expand the number of value software vendors, while developing attractive advanced technology solutions and robust reseller programs. This appointment, to be connected to the acquisition of interAct in Belux, Albora Soluciones in Spain and Portugal and CCD in the UK as well as the appointement of Michel Cohen to lead a newly created, independent value division in France, shows that Ingram seeks to become a serious player on VAD business, with an identified, dedicated BU.

Ingram Micro injects financial support to SMB market

Ingram Micro EMEA has announced a major new initiative in support of SMB resellers in the IT distribution market, as the market continues to suffer from economic softness and shrinking credit availability. In the current financial and economic environment, SMB resellers experience great difficulties in getting access to the necessary credit facilities, either from financial institutions or from distributors. In order to provide the necessary oxygen and financial stability to this strategically important link in the IT distribution value chain, Ingram Micro is strengthening the availability of credit to the SMB market by moving a significant proportion of SMB customers from pre-payment arrangements to credit lines. In doing so, Ingram Micro is confirming its commitment to building strong long-term relationships with the SMB reseller community and to re-enforcing the sustainability of IT distribution as a whole. "Country by country we are now screening our pre-payment customers who are in scope for additional credit. If our analysis confirms they meet our criteria, then we move them away from pre-payment and make credit lines available to them," explained Johannes Kamleitner, IM EMEA Senior Manager - SMB Channel Marketing.

Ingram Micro restructures Nordic operations

Scandinavia : broadliner Ingram Micro has decided to fully review its presence in Scandinavia. The distributor plans to sell its Danish operations to competitor Actebis and plans to close altogether its broadline businesses in Norway and Finland because of insufficient profitability and ROI. Turnover of these structures have beside been going regularly down since the beginning of the 21th centuries. These three offices generated all together around $450m turnover, while up to 150 jobs are at risk, following this restructuration. Restructuration will also involve reducing the Swedish workforce to support the creation of a single country broadline operation in Sweden, where it enjoys both a solid market position and good growth prospects. Beside this, the company will focus on its POS operations in all countries (Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden), resulting from the purchase of Symtech some time ago : according to Ingram, this business is very profitable and the company enjoys a position of leader in what it considers to be the second-largest DC/POS operation in Europe. Sale to Actebis is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to be completed early in the third quarter of 2009. Actebis should keep at least 3/4 of Ingram employees in the country. The intended closure of the company’s broad-based distribution businesses in Finland and Norway is expected to be completed by the end of the second quarter of 2009, also following regulatory approvals.

Freecom replaces Ingram with Tech Data
2008-10-15

Storage vendor Freecom has decided to drop broadliner Ingram as main distributor in Scandinavia, and replace it with its competitor Tech Data. This new partnership covers Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden (source : IT24 Sverige).
