A strong European thrust for Scansource Communications

American multispecialist ScanSource has entered into a definitive agreement to purchase substantially all the assets of Algol Europe, a value-added distributor specializing in convergence and communications solutions. Algol, headquartered in Cologne, Germany, is, among others, the biggest Extreme Networks training partner in the world. It will begin operating as ScanSource Communications GmBH, and will join ScanSource Communications UK (formerly MTV Telecoms, acquired by Scansource last year) as part of ScanSource Communications Europe.

The Managing Director of Algol, Marianne Nickenig, will remain with the new company and will report to Xavier Cartiaux, President of ScanSource Europe (which was until now mainly specialized in POS products). Algol is present in Belgium, France, and Germany and has opened very recently new offices in Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands, which allow ScanSource Communications to strongly reinforce its positions in Europe. Coming months should see investments from ScanSource to further strengthen its new acquired subsidiaries, as soon as main vendors agree on a common strategy with Algol, which should take up to one year, according to Xavier Cartiaux whom we interviewed : "Our first priority is to extend German vendor partnerships to UK. The other countries will follow in partnership with the vendors." Algol Europe changes its name immediately to ScanSource Communications Europe.

Algol expands in Europe

German VAD Algol Europe has strongly reinforced its presence in Europe, by opening over a few months no more than 3 new local sales offices, in Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands. In Switzerland, Beat Horrer has been appointed local sales manager. Beat was previously working for local carrier Sunrise Communication as account manager. Other local managers, if any, are yet unknown. Until further notice, other local addresses are managed from Germany.
