Arrow acquires Altimate

American giant distributor Arrow Electronics has signed a definitive agreement to acquire 100% of the shares of VAD Altimate, a subsidiary of Irish group DCC, for €41m in cash and €7.1m related to "deferred acquisition considerations" of Altimate that Arrow will take on. Specialized in storage and security, Altimate operates in eight countries including Belgium, France (its country of origin), Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom. It has a network of approximately 2,500 value-added resellers and system integrators. This acquisition will allow Arrow's VAD division Arrow ECS to globally strengthen its positions in all these countries (despite some local overlaps in terms of vendors), providing the acquisition is closed (in the next 90 days) and cleared by regulatory approval.

Altimate reorganizes its operations

France : following the signature of several new vendors in the past months, storage and security VAD Altimate has reorganized its commercial operations through the creation of 3 dedicated commercial directions, in charge of developing sales and vendor partnerships (including, most recently, Clavister, Radware and Swivel), as well as to offer a stronger expertise to the resellers. The Oracle Complete commercial direction, managed by Sophie Daval (Brand Manager Oracle Complete) is 12-people strong. The Infrastructure commercial direction, managed by Yann Plétan, is 14-people strong and works on Adobe, Brocade, C-Tera, HP, Isilon, Q-Logic, Quantum, Red Hat and Symantec offers. The Security and Network commercial direction, managed by Laurent Bérard (who has decided to drop the development of TrustPort in France), will focus on F-Secure, NetIQ, Riverbed and Symantec Security. The distributor has also set-up transversal 3 business units : the Expert Technical Consultant team (headed by Jean-Pierre Raveleau, the technical and marketing director of the distributor) helps resellers on demos, models, tests and knowledge transfer ; the service, system integration, maintenance and support contract renewal team is headed by logistic director Benoît Fletcher ; finally, the major account team, managed by Jean-Claude Ricard, is in charge of the business development through the main clients of Altimate.

New brands for Altimate

France : storage and security Altimate has recently expanded its portfolio with PostgreSQL databases from EnterpriseDB, Fusion-io cache solutions, Radware availability and application delivery systems and Swivel authentication products. All these new brands, as well as 3Par tier-1 storage systems from HP, has been signed in order to replace the slow sales of Oracle hardware solutions in the past months (despite the introduction of Pillar storage systems to its portfolio) and the loss of EMC card. The company is also discussing with Huawei to introduce its network infrastructure products in the country.

Altimate optimizes its customer service and launches its reseller portal MyAltimate

In order to optimize the quality of its customer service, storage and security VAD Altimate has centralized all the orders of its resellers to a single access mail address, orderscustomerservice@altimate-group.com, and launched its web portal MyAltimate. Initially launched in Belgium, France and Luxembourg, MyAltimate will be extended to the Netherlands and the United Kingdom early 2012, and later in Portugal and Spain. Through MyAltimate, Altimate's resellers will be able to :

track the processing of their orders by Altimate,
be informed by mail of any change in the status of their orders
visualize and edit copies of their invoices

Both these new tools are part of the new commercial strategy of the Altimate, which started in 2010 by its new name, then the implementation of a unified ERP and then the launch of a unified website for the whole group. All the new services can be used by any reseller who order more often than every 45 days. New functionalities will be added in 2012, which will allow resellers to have an access to targeted marketing and sales informations.

Ctera signs a Pact

France : a few months after storage and security VAD Altimate, storage specialist and Storex owner Pact Informatique is the second distributor in the country to distribute Ctera hybrid backup solution. Like the IDSbox from the French pioneer Disques & Silice (which was launched a few months before Ctera was even created), Ctera's Cloud Attached Storage solution combines on-premises appliances with cloud services to provide an integrated, all-in-one solution for shared storage, data protection and collaboration - avoiding the need for separate, more expensive and difficult-to-manage solutions.
