Metra raises its game with logistics investment

Middle East : broadliner Metra is preparing to open a new logistics facility that will serve as an integrated hub for its operations across the Gulf region. Metra, which is one of the main regional distributors for brands such as HP, Acer and Samsung, will call time on the outsourced logistics model it currently uses and switch to its own self-operated 6,500 square meter facility instead (source : IP Middle East).

Middle East : HP has signed Metra Computer as a distributor for its Imaging and Printing Group and its Personal Systems Group for several countries in the Middle East ; Metra will take on the IPG line for Bahrain, Iraq, Oman, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Yemen, and the PSG line, which includes notebooks and desktops for Bahrain, Iraq, Oman, UAE and Yemen (source : ITP Middle East).
Dell signs HP distributor for Middle East retail push

Middle East : Dell has made a statement of intent to bolster its presence in the retail market by authorising Redington Gulf to carry its consumer product line-up. Redington – the largest HP distributor in the region and a partner of both Acer and Toshiba – has been awarded Dell consumer rights to all of the GCC markets with the exception of Saudi Arabia. Redington becomes Dell’s fourth consumer distributor in the Middle East, joining region-wide partner Metra (Dubai, Egypt and Saudi Arabia) and UAE-focused reseller Technoworld and Kuwait-based reseller ZAK. The vendor also has a separate agreement for Vostro products with BDL (Bahrain, Egypt, Kuwait, Saudia Arabia and United Arab Emirates) (source : ITP Middle East).

ASBIS to add Western Digital to storage portfolio

Broadliner Asbis, which is specialized in the distribution of IT products to the EMEA emerging markets, completes its hard drives portfolio by signing distribution agreement with Western Digital. Under the terms of the signed agreement, ASBIS is authorized to sell wide range of WD products including hard drives for desktop, mobile, audio-video and enterprise storage applications across the Europe and CIS via its distribution centers and offices located in Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Morocco, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Tunisia, Turkey and Ukraine. Asbis offices in Western Europe (Ireland, Italy and the Netherlands) as well as Egypt and Saudi Arabia are official excluded from the deal. Albeit Middle East is officially covered by this agreement, Asbis has chosen not to immediately start the distribution of Western Digital products through its Dubai offices, saying it would wait until seeing how well the business would start in the other countries. Currently, WD distribution network in Middle East is consisting of eSys, FDC, Metra (Dubai, Egypt and Saudi Arabia) and Redington (Dubai and Saudi Arabia).
