Garmin to buy out SA distributor
2011-05-27 South Africa : GPS vendor Garmin wants to buy out its South African distributor, Garmin Distribution Africa (GDA), which will bolster growth of the portable navigation devices in the region. GDA is the exclusive distributor of the devices in SA, where it has the lion's share of the market. Its only real competition is Tom Tom, as other brands have come and gone. The deal, for an undisclosed amount, will see the company, which until 18 months ago was Avnic Holdings, renamed again, this time to Garmin Southern Africa. It will continue to operate from its offices and warehouse facility near Johannesburg, where it has about 70 staff members. When effective, this will mean the company will be deleted from ITdistri database (source : ITweb South Africa).
Avnic Trading changes name
2010-02-15 South Africa : Official distributor of Garmin products in southern Africa, Avnic Trading, has undergone a name change, and will officially be called Garmin Distribution Africa. CEO of Garmin Distribution Africa, Richard Fearon, says the organisation will continue to operate with its existing organisational structure in place, and no changes will be made to the executive team (source : IT Web South Africa).
