Avanquest acquires Micro Application
2010-11-19 France : software distributor and reeditor Avanquest has acquired its competitor Micro Application for €8m, including €6.5m in Avanquest shares. A premium of €2m may be added within 2 years, depending on the reach of profitability goals. Philippe Olivier, founder and CEO of Micro Application, will become operational director of Avanquest in France and join Avanquest executive board. Micro Application brand will be kept by Avanquest for "easy-to-use" products, and distribution networks and strategies will be kept as is. This acquisition will strongly strengthen Avanquest's position as the local leader of online/retail e-distribution (excluding gaming) and will allow to enter new Micro Application to enter new markets, where it was absent until now (United Kingdom, China or United States for example). Even better : some of translated Micro Application software will be launched in foreign countries through Avanquest offices, giving them an interesting growth potential in the coming months.

French software publisher and distributor Avanquest has launched SoftCity, the first social networking community and e-commerce website for software. An Avanquest subsidiary, SoftCity helps users interact with developers, consult with experts and buy software all in one place. SoftCity is not limited to Avanquest products, but opened to any software editor. Bruno Vanryb, co-founder, President and CEO of Avanquest Software, compares SoftCity as a merger of Facebook and Amazon with a 'rewards' system like those used by the airlines. This portal allows resellers to download whenever needed most of its software tools, and included sales tools and a configurator, which helps resellers optimize their offers.
