ScanSource names Xavier Cartiaux president of international operations
2012-03-14 Belgium : ScanSource has named Xavier Cartiaux president of international operations. In this newly created position, Mr Cartiaux will be responsible for leading the strategic direction and management of the company's international business units, which today include Europe and Latin America. Mr Cartiaux previously served as President of ScanSource Europe where he managed all European operations, including the company's POS and Barcoding and Communications sales units. He also provided oversight for all support operations, including Accounting, Reseller Financial Services, Finance, Logistics, Human Resources, Legal and Customer Service. Mr Cartiaux joined the company in 2002 as Merchandising Director, later becoming Managing Director before being named President in 2009. He has more than 18 years of experience in distribution, including more than seven years with broadline distributor Ingram Micro, where he held a number of positions, including Purchasing Manager and Senior Buyer.
ScanSource Europe expands professional services

DC POS specialist ScanSource Europe, which owns offices in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom, has doubled the size of its Professional Services team in recent months. This allows it to meet the growing demand from resellers for services and enhances its offering for 2012. Resellers in each region in Europe will now have their own dedicated Professional Services representative who understands local markets and the nature of the demand for services in that region. Resellers looking to their distributor to outsource professional services such as installation and maintenance contracts can discuss their service needs with ScanSource in their preferred language.
ScanSource Europe expands Brussels HQ office space
2012-01-09 Belgium : DC-POS specialist Scansource Europe has expanded its European headquarters to new premises in Brussels. The move provides the distributor more physical space to add resources for all areas of the business. ScanSource Europe operates based on a centralised model, whereby all back office operations and value-added services, such as vendor partner relations, stock management, reseller technical support, customer services, financial services and marketing all function from one location to provide customers enhanced service levels and maintain scalability of all services. The move to a larger office means that ScanSource will have the physical space to maintain this concept of scalability over the mid to long-term and will be able to accommodate extra Account Managers as required to continue to provide resellers a dedicated point of contact for all their needs.
ScanSource in the limelight

For the fourth year, POS and AIDC specialist ScanSource Europe and its telco and network counterpart ScanSource Communication has setup camp in Paris, as a part of the French stopover of its Partner Tour (which stopped previously in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Italy, Sweden and Poland and will continue before the end of the year in Germany and Spain). 230 visitors have met about 30 vendors, some classic like Honeywell, Intermec, Zebra or Motorola, and some other more original like the Dutch company Dyzle, which has developed wifi temperature sensors, which can be queried through the Internet and are largely used by McDonald's in the Netherlands. The number of visitors is a bit lower than the British or German stopovers of the Partner Tour, which is due to the fact that ScanSource has a smaller ScanSource Communication business in the country (indeed, only two vendors – Lifesize and Extreme Networks – were present in Paris for this division). The company also had to deal with a teacher strike on the same day, because of which many people had to take care of their children and could not get out to any event.
During the event, the distributor has unveiled to its French resellers its latest marketing initiative, including Sumo (its international social network which gathers vendors, VARs, system integrators and ISVs) and AppSource (an online software shop which is similar to the AppStore).
Richard Grégoire, ScanSource Europe's Southern Europe sales director, also reviewed the integration of ScanSource Communication in the company, following the centralization of its warehouse in Liège, in Belgium : “beside this centralization and the sharing of several services, the integration of ScanSource Communication in ScanSource Europe will allow us to share best-practices, like the ScanSource University training centre, which has been setup by ScanSource Communication and is being duplicated in our POS/AIDC business. With ScanSource Communications, we also plan to be able to answer to some broader needs of our resellers, especially in the VoIP and videoconferencing businesses”, he says. This strategy will be easier to implement on the short term in Germany or the United Kingdom, where ScanSource Communications has a broader portfolio, but will take longer to materialize in France, as its local offer is currently very limited. ScanSource Communication is thus working hard on expanding its portfolio in this country.
ScanSource Europe unveils larger, purpose-built configuration centre

POS/AIDC specialist ScanSource Europe has opened a new configuration centre at its Belgian distribution centre in order to provide enhanced Configuration Services for resellers. Configuration Services represents a cost-effective and efficient means for resellers to have products configured to their needs and, if required, shipped directly by plain label to their end users. The new dedicated configuration centre has a footprint of 80sqm and has been designed with the concept of scalability built into every aspect in order to provide equally high service levels to configuration projects of any size. Configuration, whether it be preloading of operating systems or applications, bundling of equipment, charging batteries or even simple additions of reseller marketing material, is all taken care of by ScanSource. This frees up resellers’ internal technical resources, and enables them to take on larger projects than resources may otherwise allow, ultimately helping them to manage peaks and valleys in their business. All these services are available for Scansource Europe resellers in Western Europe, through its sales offices in Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom.
