Avnet promotes corporate officers

United States : multispecialist Avnet has unveiled two corporate officer promotions. Steve Phillips, CIO, has been promoted to a corporate officer position of senior vice president for Avnet, Inc. from vice president. In addition, Graeme Watt, president of Avnet Technology Solutions EMEA, was elected as a new corporate vice president for Avnet, Inc.

Semiconductor specialis Silica has expanded its Analog offering in Europe with National products from Texas Instruments (TI). This follows TI's acquisition of National Semiconductor. Effective immediately, the European distribution specialist will support the combined full product portfolio of TI and National products from Texas Instruments, providing a leading analog component and solutions portfolio to customers. This allows Silica to offer customers a much wider choice of analog components, especially in the area of high-speed data converters and high-input power management solutions. In addition, the combination of SolarMagic ICs and PowerWise Solutions with TI's analog and digital portfolio enables Silica to design-in end-to-end energy efficient solutions for solar/renewable energy ecosystems and ultra-low IQ applications. Avnet names Rick Hamada CEO

Avnet has announced that its Board of Directors has promoted Rick Hamada, 53, to CEO effective July 4, 2011, concurrent with the beginning of Avnet's new fiscal year. Hamada, who currently serves as Avnet's President and COO, has also been appointed to the Company's Board of Directors, effective immediately. Roy Vallee, Avnet's current Chairman and CEO, will continue to serve as Executive Chairman, in which role he will focus on selected business development efforts, including future merges and acquisitions. These moves are a culmination of a multi-year CEO succession planning process.
Barthe enters IT market

Cebit 2010/France : created in 1927, Barthe is an historical vendor on foreign language learning products. It was among the newcomers on Cebit, with a booth on Planet Reseller. The company was presenting there its newborn product, Duplicator. This product ought to be the cheaper USB stick autonomous duplicator. It exists in two models, of 21 and 35 ports which are sold €699 and €899 excl. VAT. Duplicator has been created following a recurrent demand from teachers – the usual Barthe's market – which were looking for a simple solution to duplicate content for their students. In France, it fits perfectly well in current IT equipment State program for Digital School. The company is testing IT market through its presence on Cebit. According to Stéphanie Kabela, export sales manager of Barthe, Duplicator has met a huge interest from Cebit visitors : « two of them have even signed firm orders », she says. Many contacts have been made over whole Europe, with resellers wishing to sell the product, or to use it for their own use or for service providing. Everywhere, distribution network remains to be built.
ROHM Semiconductor signs distribution agreement with SILICA

Semiconductor distributor Avnet-Silica has signed a distribution agreement with ROHM Semiconductor, authorising Silica to sell and support their full range of Integrated Circuits, Discrete semiconductors, Opto electronics, and modules in Europe. ROHM products will be available through Silica offices in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Turkey and Ukraine.
